Mt Coolum is a laccolith* - volcanic rock formation - found on Australia's Sunshine Coast. Formed 26 million years ago, the protruding mass is visible from our home located 20 miles south. With a top elevation of 208 meters above sea level, that's 679 feet and nearly the length of two football fields, the trek to the top is more than a casual stroll.

Climbing this gorgeous rock has been on my bucket list since moving to the Sunshine Coast. Mornings begin around 4:30 a.m. during Queensland summers, so we took advantage of the early daylight hours to climb Mt. Coolum. The local websites and hiking reviews promised views worthy of the climb. Their promises were kept.

Until next time,

Dana
